Jiaogulan, also known as the "herb of immortality," is one of the lesser-known traditional Chinese herbs. The nickname hints at its rejuvenating and revitalizing effect. For centuries, it was used almost exclusively by the people in a mountainous region in southern China where the herb grows wild. Today it's well known in China and widely consumed by the people interested in it's claimed longevity effect.

In the 1970s, China conducted a comprehensive census. It was discovered that inhabitants in certain regions, primarily in Guizhou province, were living longer than average—often reaching over 100 years. It turned out that the oldest residents had regularly consumed Jiaogulan tea throughout their lifetimes. Partly from this event comes the nickname "herb of immortality," but also from numerous scientific studies conducted on this mystical herb.

Except from China, you can also find it growing in the wild in northern Laos, Thailand and Vietnam.
